Hi Brightwood:
Unfortunately, last night (June 20), two violent crimes took place in Brightwood. The first crime occurred at 8 pm on the 6000 block of 13th Place near 13th & Fort Stevens Drive. A juvenile was shot in the leg by persons in a blue Kia that was stolen and later recovered by MPD. The victim was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. No arrests have been made.
The second crime occurred on the 1300 block of Rittenhouse Street at midnight. A man was a victim of an armed robbery (gun), and cash and a cell phone were taken. The cell phone was recovered. The criminals, three men, drove away in a stolen blue Dodge Charger, which was later dumped on the 1300 block of Somerset Place. No arrests have been made.
If anyone has camera video of either crime, including the car being left on the 1300 block of Somerset Place sometime after midnight, don't hesitate to get in touch with Officer Singh at ramandeep.singh@dc.gov or call the MDP Tip Line at 202- 727-9099. I thank all of the neighbors who called me about these two crimes. I spoke with police officers this morning around 9 am on Somerset Place. The stolen car involved in the armed robbery was towed around 9:45 am.
