Hi Brightwood:
Chief Carlos Heraud will attend the MPD 4D monthly Bon(d) Fire at 4D located at 6001 Georgia Ave on 4-26-24 at 3 pm. This event is open to the community and provides an opportunity to discuss crime in Brightwood with Chief Heraud, Officer Hamrick, and other 4D police officers. Please see the attachment for more details.
Also, after the shooting on April 15 on the corner of 13th & Rittenhouse, I contacted MPD 4D Commander Lavenhouse and requested a community walk with her and 4D Police Officers. Commander Lavenhouse was very responsive and confirmed a Brightwood MPD Community Walk on May 9 at 3:30 pm. I urge the Brightwood community to join me, the Commander, and Officer Hamrick on May 9. This is your opportunity to walk your neighborhood with the Ward 4 MPD Commander, raise concerns, and ask questions. I believe the walk will begin on the corner of Georgia & Sheridan. I will confirm the location once MPD shares it with me.
Lastly, as for the crime-ridden corner of Georgia & Sheridan, I requested that it be made a Drug Free Zone per the newly passed DC Crime Bill. Commander Lavenhouse received my request and is processing it for approval. There are parameters that must be met for an area to be declared a Drug Free Zone, it's a process and I am hopeful that my request is approved. I do not have a timeframe for when a decision will be made, but as soon as I am informed, I will send an email to the community.
