Collections Time Adjustment

Starting NOW through September 6, DPW will begin trash & recycling and food waste collections at 6:00 a.m. to beat the heat! On code red days, collections will start at 5:30 a.m. Free mulch/compost pickup at Fort Totten Transfer Station, at 4900 John McCormack Rd NE, will be temporarily suspended beginning July 6, 2024.

DPW Seeking Community Input for 24/7 Food Waste Drop-Off Bins: The Department of Public Works is aiming to install smart food waste bins across the District! These bins would give residents the ability to drop off food scraps in these lockable bins 24/7, creating greater access to food waste diversion opportunities in the District. DPW is hosting a series of virtual community meetings in each ward to gather community input about where the bins could go.
